Food safety essentials course (for businesses and individuals)

Food business owners by law, are responsible for making sure that people who handle food or food contact surfaces in their business, and the people who supervise this work, have the skills and knowledge they need to handle food safely. It is recognised that knowledge comes from training and skills from practice, instruction and supervision. This essential food safety course has been designed and reviewed by world food safety and teaching experts.

Who should complete this course?
Everyone in a food business, students, or anyone cooking food at home or for other people. This ‘essentials’ course provides enough knowledge to help prevent the most common errors and is a start on your food safety training journey.

It should be used as part of an induction program for those undertaking work-experience in a food business, and for anyone with a keen interest in learning more about the basic principles of food safety and hygiene.

This online course is suitable for everyone working in a catering environment. Further top-up to Level 1 training is available for those who are directly involved in the preparation or handling of high-risk foods, please complete the food safety essential course  then the top-up to be equivalent to level 1 certification.

Senior schools materials

Food safety is everyone’s responsibility. First for Training have designed a series of free posters for schools to download as well as low cost training courses (essential, top-up and level 1), which allow you to effortlessly include food safety into your lesson plans. Everyone involved in food safety in schools can access the free materials and reduced cost training (volunteers, parents, school staff and pupils).

First for Training makes a teacher’s life easy. As a school or educational institution you will have access to downloadable courses, free materials, downloadable handbooks/manuals, cards and more.

These allow you to create an in-class lesson to prepare students for the online exam. Once they have completed the online exam they will be provided with a downloadable certificate. To allow students to take the online exam, you will receive a code which allows students to get up to 30% off the cost of the essential, top up or level 1 course. Find out more
